Grey Goose was created in 1997 by Sidney Frank, an American businessman who had made his fortune importing Jägermeister. He set out to create the most expensive vodka in the world and succeeded. Made from winter wheat from the Beauce region of France and spring water from Gensac-La-Pallue, Grey Goose established the ultra-premium vodka category and paved the way for every other prestige vodka that followed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Grey Goose so expensive in India?
Grey Goose is expensive in India for two reasons beyond its inherent premium positioning. First, as a French imported spirit it attracts India is high import duty on alcohol — approximately 150 percent. Second, Grey Goose was deliberately created in 1997 to be the world is most expensive vodka and the pricing reflects that positioning. The single-origin French winter wheat, natural spring water from Gensac-La-Pallue and five-step distillation process genuinely justify a premium over standard vodkas. At Rs 5200 in Delhi it remains a luxury purchase and most Indian drinkers choose Absolut for cocktails and save Grey Goose for special occasions.
Is Grey Goose worth the premium over Absolut?
For cocktails — no. For sipping neat or in a Vodka Martini — yes. Grey Goose has a noticeably silkier, softer character than Absolut that is genuinely appreciable when the vodka is the primary focus. In a Vodka Tonic, Cosmopolitan or Moscow Mule the difference between Grey Goose and Absolut is barely perceptible once mixers are added. Buy Absolut for cocktails and save Grey Goose for occasions where you want to pour a quality neat spirit.
Grey Goose vs Belvedere — which ultra-premium vodka is better in India?
Both Grey Goose and Belvedere are world-class ultra-premium vodkas at similar price points in India. Grey Goose uses French winter wheat and is softer and lighter. Belvedere uses Polish Dankowskie Gold Rye and has a slightly more characterful, slightly spicier profile. Grey Goose is more widely available in India. Both are excellent for Vodka Martinis. Personal preference determines which is better — try both neat if possible before committing to a regular bottle at these price points.
What is the best way to drink Grey Goose?
Grey Goose is best appreciated either neat, chilled directly from the freezer, or in a classic Vodka Martini. Store the bottle in the freezer for at least four hours. Pour directly into a frozen Martini glass and sip slowly. The silky texture and subtle wheat sweetness are immediately apparent. Adding a single drop of dry vermouth in the Martini format creates one of the finest vodka drinking experiences available. Ice dilutes and dulls the character — if you must serve over ice, use one large cube to minimise dilution.
Is Grey Goose available at duty free in India?
Yes, Grey Goose is available at duty free shops at all major Indian international airports. Duty free prices are around Rs 3200 for a 750ml bottle compared to the Delhi retail price of Rs 5200 — a saving of Rs 2000 per bottle. For a premium vodka at this quality level, duty free is the most sensible place to buy it in India. Most regular Grey Goose drinkers in India factor airport duty free into their purchasing strategy.
