About Us

About The Spirit Atlas

India is the largest whisky market in the world by volume. It has some of the fastest-growing single malt distilleries anywhere. And for years, the dominant sources of information were either brand-controlled press releases or pricing data that was weeks out of date. The Spirit Atlas exists because that was not good enough.

What We Do

Independent reviews. Tasting notes, category context, and honest opinions on whisky, rum, gin, vodka, beer, and more. We do not accept payment for coverage or adjust scores based on brand relationships.

India pricing, by state. A whisky that costs ₹3,500 in Goa can cost ₹5,800 in Delhi. We track state-wise pricing across 105+ expressions so the number you see is the number you actually pay at your local store.

Fact-checked coverage. Award claims, competition results, and distillery information are verified before they appear in our copy. Errors are corrected with a note — not quietly deleted.

Editorial Standards

  • No paid placements. Brands cannot buy coverage, rankings, or favourable scores on The Spirit Atlas. Every bottle that appears here does so because we chose to write about it.
  • Award claims are verified. We cross-reference competition results against official published winners before using them in copy. If a claim cannot be verified, it does not appear.
  • Pricing reflects reality. We use government-issued MRP data and state excise sources, updated when rates change — not on a fixed schedule.
  • Opinion and fact are kept separate. Tasting notes are subjective. Scores are editorial judgement. We are clear about which is which.

Who Runs This

Shivam Sharma — Founder & Editor

Shivam started The Spirit Atlas after spending years navigating an Indian spirits landscape where good information was hard to find and independent coverage was nearly nonexistent. His particular focus is Indian whisky — single malts, IMFL, and the rapidly expanding craft distillery space — alongside rum, gin, and beer. He covers the category with editorial intent, not as an SEO exercise. Every bottle reviewed on this site has been tasted or evaluated against independently verifiable sourcing.
