United Breweries first produced Kingfisher in 1857. For most of its history it was a regional South Indian brand. Vijay Mallya's national push in the 1980s changed everything. Aggressive marketing through cricket and print ads turned Kingfisher into the face of Indian beer internationally. Today UB controls over 50% of the Indian beer market by volume, and Kingfisher Premium is the product that built that position. It is the beer most foreign visitors try first in India and the one most Indians order without thinking twice.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Kingfisher Premium a good beer?
For what it sets out to do, yes. Kingfisher Premium is a consistent, clean session lager designed for India's climate and drinking culture. The malt is light, the bitterness is mild and the carbonation is sharp enough to refresh. It is not a beer you analyse — it is a beer you drink cold with food. At around Rs 150 for a 650ml bottle in Delhi it is exceptional value. The 330ml can costs around Rs 90 in Delhi if you want a smaller serve. If you want more flavour from an Indian beer, Bira 91 White or White Rhino Hefeweizen are worth trying.
What is the price of Kingfisher Premium in India?
Kingfisher Premium 650ml is priced at around Rs 150 in Delhi, Rs 130 in Goa, Rs 160 in Karnataka and Rs 180 in Mumbai. The 330ml can costs around Rs 90 in Delhi and Rs 80 in Goa. Goa is consistently the cheapest state for beer because of lower excise duties.
Kingfisher Premium vs Kingfisher Strong — which should I pick?
Kingfisher Premium at 4.8% ABV is the session lager — you can drink several over a long evening and stay functional. Kingfisher Strong at 8% is for drinkers who want more from fewer bottles. For a hot afternoon or a meal out, Premium is the smarter call. For a shorter night where ABV matters more, go Strong.
Is Kingfisher available across all Indian states?
Yes. United Breweries operates breweries in multiple states so Kingfisher is brewed regionally rather than transported from one facility. That keeps it fresh and available virtually everywhere beer is sold legally in India.
What food pairs well with Kingfisher Premium?
Kingfisher Premium is one of the most food-friendly beers in India. The light body and mild bitterness work with almost anything spicy. The carbonation cuts through chilli heat and resets the palate. Biryani, butter chicken, dal makhani, samosas, paneer tikka. It does not compete with the food, which is the right call for a session lager.
