History & Background

Blue Moon Belgian White was launched in 1995 by what is now Molson Coors, originally brewed in Golden, Colorado under the name Bellyslide Belgian White before being rebranded. It helped popularise the Belgian witbier style in the American market well before craft beer became mainstream, and remains one of the most recognised craft-style beers internationally. It is imported into India, giving Indian wheat beer drinkers an American interpretation of the witbier style alongside the more common Belgian originals like Hoegaarden.

Production & Maturation

Production Method
Made from malted barley, white wheat, orange peel, coriander and oats, giving it a creamier mouthfeel than a traditional Belgian witbier.
Aging & Maturation

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Blue Moon a Belgian beer?

No, despite the name, Blue Moon Belgian White is an American beer brewed by Molson Coors, originally created in Golden, Colorado in 1995. It is brewed in the Belgian witbier style but is not actually from Belgium.

Blue Moon Belgian White price in India

Blue Moon Belgian White 500ml costs around Rs 220 in Mumbai, positioning it as a premium imported wheat beer alongside other international witbiers available in India.

Blue Moon vs Hoegaarden — which witbier is better?

Hoegaarden is the original Belgian witbier with centuries of brewing tradition behind it. Blue Moon has a creamier texture from the addition of oats and is generally considered slightly sweeter and less tart than Hoegaarden. Both are excellent; the choice depends on whether you prefer the authentic Belgian original or the American interpretation.

What is the alcohol content of Blue Moon Belgian White?

Blue Moon Belgian White is 5.4% ABV.

Why is an orange slice served with Blue Moon?

The brewmasters at Blue Moon claim the orange slice accentuates the citrus character already present from the orange peel used in brewing. This has become the brand's signature serving ritual, similar to how Corona is served with lime.

Is Blue Moon available across India?

Blue Moon is available primarily at premium bars and import retailers in major Indian cities, with distribution confirmed in markets like Mumbai.

What food pairs with Blue Moon Belgian White?

Its creamy, citrus-forward character pairs well with seafood, salads and lightly spiced dishes that won't overpower its delicate spice notes.
