History & Background

Kings Pilsner was brewed at the Impala Distillery and Brewery in Assolda, near Margao in South Goa, and remained a Goa-only beer for 22 years before anyone outside the state really knew it existed. That geographic exclusivity was part of its charm locally. In 2015, Bollywood actor-producer Sachiin Joshi's Viiking Ventures acquired the brand from Impala for Rs 90 crore and rebranded it Goa Kings, expanding distribution to Mumbai, Delhi and beyond while keeping production with the original Impala brewery. The packaging stayed the same even as the price roughly doubled once it started travelling outside Goa, partly due to excise duty differences between states.
