Gold Label Reserve was introduced in 2013 as a replacement for the original age-stated Gold Label 18, repositioning the expression as a celebratory, no-age-statement blend built around Clynelish single malt from the Scottish Highlands, known for its waxy, honeyed character. The move was controversial among purists who missed the age statement, but the resulting whisky found a strong following among drinkers who wanted a smoother, sweeter, more indulgent step up from Black Label without the smoke of Double Black.
