History & Background

Paul John distillery was established in Goa in 1996 by John Distilleries, already a large player in the IMFL market. The single malt range launched internationally in 2012 and won critical acclaim immediately. The Bold expression uses heavily peated barley at around 35 ppm and the combination of Scottish peat and Goan climate creates a tropical-smoke profile that is entirely its own. Maturation in the Goan heat means the spirit develops in two to three years what might take six or more in Scotland. Paul John Bold is now exported to over 35 countries and is one of the most awarded Indian whiskies ever made.

Production & Maturation

Production Method
Made from heavily peated barley at approximately 35 ppm phenols, sourced from Scotland. Distilled in traditional copper pot stills at the Goa distillery.
Aging & Maturation
Matured in American oak ex-bourbon barrels in Goa. The hot and humid coastal climate drives rapid maturation and produces the tropical fruit notes that distinguish Paul John from all Scottish comparisons.
