History & Background

Imperial Blue was originally a Seagram's brand, launched in 1997 in India. Pernod Ricard acquired the Seagram's India portfolio in 2001 and Imperial Blue grew into India's third-largest whisky, selling 22.4 million cases in FY2025. In a major 2025 portfolio restructuring, Pernod Ricard sold Imperial Blue to Tilaknagar Industries for Rs 4,150 crore, announced December 2025. Tilaknagar Industries — best known for Mansion House brandy — took ownership as Pernod exited the mass-market segment to focus on Royal Stag, Blenders Pride, and premium global brands. Imperial Blue remains the most recognisable beginner whisky in India and one of the country's most loved Bollywood-adjacent brands.

Production Method

A blend of Indian grain spirits and imported Scotch malt whisky. The grain spirit base is light and neutral, contributing to the brand's characteristic smoothness and accessibility for new drinkers.

Aging & Maturation

The Scotch malt components are aged in Scotland before blending. The final blend is light-filtered and rested before bottling at 42.8% ABV.
