Frequently Asked Questions

Is Royal Stag a genuine whisky or just alcohol with flavouring?

Royal Stag is a genuine blended whisky — it is a combination of Indian grain spirit and imported Scotch malt whiskies. This is the standard IMFL whisky production model in India and is perfectly legal and regulated. It is not a flavoured spirit. The Scotch malt whisky component provides character and complexity while the Indian grain spirit provides the volume base. At Rs 680 in Delhi for a 750ml bottle it represents extraordinary value for a whisky that genuinely carries Scotch malt influence. For the price, nothing comes close in India.

Royal Stag vs Imperial Blue — which is better?

Royal Stag and Imperial Blue are the two biggest IMFL whisky brands in India and they have different characters. Royal Stag has slightly more body and a mild spice that makes it more interesting neat or with water. Imperial Blue is smoother, lighter and better designed for mixing with cola or soda. Royal Stag costs a few rupees more than Imperial Blue in most states. If you drink your whisky primarily with soda or cola, Imperial Blue is the better choice. If you occasionally drink it neat, Royal Stag has more to offer.

What is the price of Royal Stag across all Indian states?

Royal Stag prices vary significantly across India due to different state excise structures. In Goa it is available at around Rs 560 which is the cheapest in India. Delhi prices it at Rs 680, Karnataka at Rs 720 and Mumbai at Rs 760. States with higher excise duties and state monopoly systems tend to price IMFL whiskies higher. Royal Stag is one of the most widely available whiskies across all Indian states and union territories and is consistently among the most affordable options wherever it is sold.

Is Royal Stag good for health compared to other spirits?

No alcohol is good for health and Royal Stag is no exception. However from a harm reduction perspective, Royal Stag at 42.8% ABV is a standard strength spirit. Drinking any whisky in moderation — defined by health authorities as no more than one standard drink per day — is significantly safer than binge drinking. Royal Stag contains no added sugar unlike many flavoured spirits and RTD drinks. Always drink responsibly and within legal limits. If you have health concerns about alcohol consumption, consult a medical professional.

Why is Royal Stag the world is bestselling whisky by volume?

Royal Stag sells over 100 million cases annually partly because India is the world is largest whisky consuming nation by volume. The combination of a large aspirational middle class, affordable pricing and effective marketing — particularly through cricket and Bollywood associations — has driven Royal Stag to numbers that dwarf even Johnnie Walker and Jack Daniel is globally. The brand benefits from being in the right market at the right price point at the right time in India is economic development. It is a genuinely Indian success story.
