Gerard Adriaan Heineken founded the brewery in Amsterdam in 1873. The green bottle and red star became globally recognised packaging. Heineken entered India through United Breweries and is now brewed locally at UB facilities. The A-yeast, Heineken's proprietary culture developed in the 19th century, is the main thing that separates the Heineken taste from other Indian-brewed premium lagers. In India it sits clearly above Kingfisher on price but below craft beers.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Heineken brewed in India?
Yes. Heineken sold in India is brewed locally at United Breweries facilities under a licensing agreement with Heineken International. The Dutch parent maintains quality standards. Local brewing keeps the price lower than an imported product would be.
Heineken price in India
Heineken 650ml costs around Rs 220 in Delhi, Rs 195 in Goa, Rs 240 in Karnataka and Rs 270 in Mumbai. The 330ml can costs around Rs 125 in Delhi and Rs 110 in Goa. Both formats are stocked at most premium off-licences and delivery platforms.
Heineken vs Kingfisher Premium — is the premium worth it?
Heineken at Rs 220 vs Kingfisher at Rs 150 in Delhi is a 45% price difference. The quality gap is real but not enormous. Heineken has a more distinctive yeast character and better carbonation. For everyday drinking Kingfisher is fine value. When you want a slightly better experience or a more recognised international brand, Heineken is worth the extra spend.
Heineken vs Corona — which imported lager is better in India?
Heineken has more character — hop bitterness, yeast notes and slightly more body. Corona is lighter and more neutral, designed to be served very cold with a lime wedge. For drinkers who want a proper lager, Heineken is the better choice. For something lighter and more social at a sunny occasion, Corona is excellent.
What is the alcohol content of Heineken in India?
Heineken sold in India is 5% ABV, the standard lager strength. There is no strong variant of Heineken available in India.
