History & Background

Chivas 18 was launched in 1997 to sit above the 12 in the range and give drinkers something more substantial for special occasions. Made from whiskies aged a minimum of 18 years, it uses a higher proportion of single malt compared to the 12. The extra maturation time shows immediately on the nose and palate. This is one of the best value premium blended Scotches available in India and regularly outperforms more expensive single malts in blind tastings.

Production & Maturation
Production Method
Same blending approach as the 12 but with higher malt content and whiskies selected for their ability to develop over longer maturation periods.
Aging & Maturation
Minimum 18 years ageing. The blend includes whiskies from Strathisla, Longmorn, Glen Keith and other Speyside distilleries, all aged separately before blending.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Chivas Regal 18 better than Chivas 12?
Yes, Chivas Regal 18 is a meaningful step up from Chivas 12 in every way. The extra six years of ageing adds dark toffee, dried fruit, toasted almonds and a depth that the 12 simply cannot match. At Rs 6800 in Delhi versus Rs 2800 for the 12, you are paying roughly 2.5 times more. The quality difference is real and noticeable. For special occasions, gifting or when you want to savour a whisky slowly, Chivas 18 is worth every rupee. For casual everyday drinking, Chivas 12 makes more sense financially.
Chivas Regal 18 vs Glenfiddich 18 — which is the better buy in India?
Both are outstanding 18 year aged whiskies but at different prices. Chivas Regal 18 costs around Rs 6800 in Delhi while Glenfiddich 18 runs Rs 9500. Chivas 18 is a blended Scotch — smoother, more consistent and approachable. Glenfiddich 18 is a single malt — more complex and individual. For a dinner party or gifting where approachability matters, Chivas 18 at the lower price is the smarter choice. For a personal collection or a serious whisky drinker who appreciates single malt complexity, Glenfiddich 18 justifies the premium.
What makes Chivas Regal 18 special?
Chivas Regal 18 is special for two reasons. First, every whisky in the blend is aged for a minimum of 18 years — not an average or a majority, but every single component. Second, the blend contains a higher proportion of single malt whisky compared to Chivas 12, giving it more depth and character. The result is a whisky with dark toffee, dried fruit, butterscotch and a warm spice complexity that develops slowly in the glass. It regularly outperforms more expensive single malts in blind tastings which speaks to the quality of the blending.
Is Chivas Regal 18 available at duty free in India?
Yes, Chivas Regal 18 is available at duty free shops at all major Indian international airports including Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai. Duty free prices are around Rs 4200 for a 750ml bottle, which is significantly less than the Delhi retail price of Rs 6800. This represents a saving of around Rs 2600 per bottle. If you are travelling internationally or someone is arriving from abroad, asking them to bring a bottle of Chivas 18 from duty free is one of the best ways to enjoy premium blended Scotch at a fair price in India.
Who should buy Chivas Regal 18 in India?
Chivas Regal 18 is ideal for the Indian drinker who has moved beyond standard blends like Johnnie Walker Black Label and wants something more substantial without jumping to single malt prices. It works beautifully for corporate gifting, festival presents and celebratory occasions. Whisky lovers who enjoy the house style of Chivas 12 but want more complexity will find the 18 a natural and rewarding upgrade. For those exploring premium whisky for the first time, the Macallan 12 Double Cask at a slightly lower price is also worth considering alongside it.
