Glenfiddich 18 Year Old — Full Review

The Glenfiddich 18 Year Old is one of the most recognisable single malt Scotch whiskies on Indian shelves. Priced at approximately ?7,500 in Delhi and ?8,200 in Maharashtra, it sits firmly in the premium segment. But with so many excellent whiskies available at similar price points, is the Glenfiddich 18 still worth your money in 2025?

Background and Heritage

Founded in 1887 by William Grant in the Speyside region of Scotland, Glenfiddich — meaning "Valley of the Deer" in Gaelic — has become the world's best-selling single malt. The 18 Year Old expression is matured for a minimum of 18 years in a combination of ex-bourbon American oak and ex-Oloroso sherry casks before a final marrying period in small tuns.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep amber gold with rich mahogany hints — a beautiful natural colour from the sherry cask influence.

Nose

The nose opens with dried fruit — raisins, sultanas, and prunes — followed by warm vanilla, gentle oak spice, and a delicate floral note. There is a lovely harmony between the bourbon cask sweetness and the sherry cask depth.

Palate

On the palate, rich toffee and cinnamon arrive first, followed by dried apricot, malt biscuit, and a whisper of winter spice. The mouthfeel is full and coating. Water opens it up further, releasing more fruit and a gentle nuttiness.

Finish

The finish is long and warming with dark chocolate, dried fruit, and a lingering oak warmth. Genuinely impressive for a widely available whisky.

Price in India (2025)

  • Delhi: ?7,500 (750ml)
  • Maharashtra: ?8,200 (750ml)
  • Goa: ?5,800 (750ml) — best value
  • Karnataka: ?7,800 (750ml)
  • Duty Free India: ~$52 (750ml)

Verdict

The Glenfiddich 18 remains one of the best value premium single malts you can buy in India. The combination of Oloroso sherry and bourbon cask maturation produces a whisky that punches well above its price point. For anyone looking to spend around ?7,000–8,000 on a single malt, this should be your first choice.
